We started our farm in 2015. We were not able to hunt our caribou herd for 15 years, and the food that we were usually able to get, like seagull eggs, is changing because of the erosion we face is changing our landscape. We wanted to get back to eating food that is local, adapted to our land and people, and healthy for our bodies. The farm was so exciting for our people, bringing us closer as a community. We spent more time outside. We learned so much about animals and our food.
Our adventure continues

We expanded our farm with pigs in the summer of 2015. Our reindeer were learning how to eat grain.

Our Food Movement

Our goals are:
  • Teach, remember and document hunting, fishing, gathering and processing of food and medicine found in our communities
  • Increase access to healthy and affordable food not found in our communities
  • Engage others in the conversation of food, nutrition and emergency preparedness

In 2016, our farm expanded to include gardens, chickens, and rabbits. We welcomed babies from our reindeer, pigs, and rabbits. Our farm uses as much local resources as possible, one of our chicken houses is made from a decommissioned fuel drum, retrofitted with a door and windows.

In 2017, our garden is coming along, we welcomed new babies and brought a cow home in a kennel. We started training our dogs to help work on the farm.

Our farm continues to grow and we are learning more and more each day.
